What’s new in Trados – Q2 2024 round-up

An introduction to translation collaboration

The past three months have brought about exciting advancements to Trados.  Notably, we've launched an innovative 'AI Essentials' add-on,  simplifying the integration of AI into translation workflows. AI Essentials combines two groundbreaking capabilities introduced earlier this year – Generative Translation and Smart Review – designed to enhance translation quality, speed up time-to-market, and cut translation costs. With no separate LLM subscription required, this add-on empowers organizations to customize their Trados solutions in line with their unique business needs, unlocking new possibilities to translate everything efficiently. 

Additionally, we have also released a collection of new enhancements to The Trados platform. Here are just a few of our latest innovations: 

Greater flexibility and quality with better translation management 

Brand-new Custom Reporting module: Launched in 2021, our Custom Reporting feature enables users to turn their unique business data into tailored reports. This gives them valuable insight into their performance metrics and projects, allowing them to make data-driven decisions. 

Since then, we have listened to valuable customer feedback and significantly refined our Custom Reporting capabilities, making it even simpler to generate reports that align with your specific business needs and requirements. New enhancements include: 

  • A brand-new modernized UI for seamless project creation. 
  • Major performance enhancements, including a highly responsive report designer interface to maximize efficiency.

PerfectMatch for efficient translation: We have now introduced PerfectMatch in the browser as a new step in the workflow, bringing this powerful capability to the entire Trados portfolio. 

Previously only available in the desktop application, PerfectMatch is a form of context match that compares source files to existing bilingual files rather than to a translation memory. By identifying matching segments from the previous document and considering the surrounding context, it can provide a perfect match. These ‘perfect’ segments can then be locked, ensuring that translators do not waste valuable time re-translating content that has already been translated before. This allows project managers to better prepare files for translation and enables translators to focus their time on essential tasks, significantly boosting productivity. PerfectMatch offers a consistent, efficient solution to translating content that may need to be updated regularly, such as product descriptions or manuals.

Increased efficiency and customization with improved translation collaboration 

Smart Help in Customer Portal: We’re continuously infusing linguistic AI throughout the Trados platform, and one of the many AI capabilities we offer is Trados Copilot – Smart Help. Smart Help uses our own secure LLM to provide intelligent assistance at the click of a button. It can answer any question you put to it, based on our product documentation, as well as providing the relevant links and citations. Already available in the main Trados UI, this intelligent functionality has now been extended to the Customer Portal, giving users a simpler, more efficient way to find answers to their product-related queries.

Custom dashboard content: We're committed to helping our users maximize their experience in the Trados platform. Our latest update introduces the ability to display custom content in dashboards from within both the main Trados UI and the Customer Portal. Account Administrators can now share essential materials, such as quick links to company style guides and other relevant resources, reducing the need for users to leave the Trados platform to find information. Additionally, Account Administrators can set permissions to control in which interface the content is displayed, providing greater oversight and management.

Speed up translation processes with new translation productivity features  

Online Editor enhancements

The Trados platform gives users access to a browser-based modern editing environment, with advanced review options, real-time previews and the ability to work from any device, anywhere. We're constantly refining the online editor, ensuring users have access to all the functionality they need to produce high-quality work. Some of the latest features include: 

Adobe InDesign Preview: Customers have long requested the ability to access an in-context preview of IDML files when working in the online editor and this is now a reality with our new Adobe InDesign Preview add-on. This gives users a real-time preview of their files in final format, allowing them to visualize what the finished version will look like and check everything looks correct.  

The true power of in-context preview is evident when combined with AI features such as Generative Translation. For example, marketers can transcreate content while still benefiting from approved terminology and previous translations. The in-context preview then allows them to verify that the alternate translations work effectively in the target file.

Simplified editing mode in online editor for SMEs: Technology is constantly evolving - cloud solutions are transforming how teams collaborate and share information, while advances in machine translation—especially with the integration of large language models—are achieving unprecedented accuracy.  As a result, the translation review process is now more often about refining translations than performing extensive post-editing, leading to an increase in the use of subject matter experts (SMEs). 

Recognizing the need for a professional yet user-friendly tool, we have developed a simplified editing mode in our online editor tailored specifically for SMEs. This new editing environment ensures that businesses can leverage the expertise of their SMEs without overwhelming them, streamlining the review process and enhancing overall efficiency. When combined with AI capabilities such as Smart Review, available in our AI Essentials add-on, SMEs can review, edit and improve translated material faster than ever before.
