About Us

Since 1978, the Gesellschaft für Technische Kommunikation – tekom Deutschland e.V. (tekom) has been dedicated to improving technical communication within organizations and developing technical communication job profiles.

As a corporate member of tekom Europe with 9,000 members, we are the largest professional association for technical communication in Europe. For all those who work in technical communication or in other areas of information development, we offer a platform for the exchange of information and experience, promote training and further education towards the professional development of our members. As a professional association, we are committed to ensuring that our members stay up to date with the latest developments in technical communication and don’t miss out on any trends. To this end, we organize conferences, trade fairs and exhibitions, webinars and issue trade journals and publications. 

Our members are also organized in regional groups offering events free of charge. Together with tekom Europe, which currently has 13 national organizations, COM&TEC from Italy and Tecom Switzerland, we are a strong international network with numerous cross-association activities.

Purposes

The aim of the association is to promote the professional political and business interests of all people working in technical communication.

One of our main goals is to improve job profiles in technical communication and enhance related training and education. We adapt to the ongoing changes and new demands in the field of technical communication. For example, the tekom competence framework for technical translation was developed, which provides an introduction to the diverse requirements of multilingual technical communication. We work closely with other professional associations, training and further education providers, universities and companies in the industry to further develop professional profiles.

Another key activity is our work on standardization, representing the interests of technical communication professionals in various committees. By contributing, we help set high-quality standards for information products globally, elevating the status of technical communication in companies.
We view technical communication as a distinct business field and aim to provide a platform for various stakeholders to succeed. With the tcworld conference and the trade fair, we offer the world's largest industry get-together with over 4,000 participants every year.
